November is a strong month of belonging to Bishop Angelo Negri Founder of the Little Sisters of Mary Immaculate of Gulu and the Little Brothers of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Lodonga.
The Heavenly Birthday of Bishop Angelo Negri is 11th November 1949 and the His Birthday on Earth is 19th November 1889. This year was his 126th birthday. He passed on to the next world when he was a week to clock 60 years of age. This time the occasion was celebrated in his home village called Tres in Trento-Italy.
At the center of the celebration was the 90th anniversary of a journal he wrote for the children named "Piccolo Missionario" PM (Little Missionary PM).The Comboni Missionaries are using this journals far and wide in their missions. This year in November it was the 11th Edition.
Bishop Angelo Negri entrusted PM as the Patrimony of the two Institutes of the Sisters and of the Brothers by which both Institutes are dedicated to children's activities in many ways. To us children are silent evangelizers because their innocence, simple and friendly behaviour is examplary to the adults. Before been corrupted by the environment, children act with all innocence to do the good. Their actions often awake the conscience of corrupted adults. Jesus mentions to His disciples that they should not prevent the Children come to him. It is to the children that the Kingdom of God belongs.
On this day the recognition of PM was why the word "Little" was so much on the lips of Bishop Angelo Negri. For example the names of the two Institutes, the Missionary guide for the children and words about the purity, humility and simplicity of Mother Mary, the Burning love of Jesus' Sacred Heart. The focus he wanted to impart to his sheep was being "Little" pure, simple and humble as ticket to attain the kingdom of God
The Superior Generals; Sr. Susan Clare Ndeezo of the Little Sisters and Bro. Pontius Erema of the Little Brothers together with the Chairperson Sr. Pauline Silver Acayo and her Vice Brother Robert Okello who head the Institutes' commission to up-hail the Process of the Beatification of Bishop Angelo Negri Servant of God were present. There is an approved prayer by the Head of Gulu Archdiocese to be recited by all so that God through the intercession of the Servant of God Bishop Angelo Negri grants favors to who ever uses this prayer. It was a golden chance for the two sisters and the two brothers to be present in this celebration. They represented all the people Bishop Angelo Negri had tended as chief shepherd in the Equatorial Nile Vicariate that included parts of South Sudan Yei and Torit. This currently is the Northern Ecclesiastical Province of GANAL (Gulu, Arua, Nebbi and Lira dioceses).
The Parish Church of Tres was full and the Holy Mass was led by Fr. Aurelio Boscani , who con-celebrated with Fr. Mariano Prandi, Fr Daniele Armani, Fr. Patrick J Stevenson and the Parish Priest of Tres Fr. Ettore Taraboi. There were several men and women who shared that when they were kids Piccolo Missionario was the book they read or was read to them before going to sleep. As for us in Uganda the text was there but in Italian. The two Institutes made a translation and had one that shared the activities of the children they teach and had encounters with. It also showed what impact the children have on the commitment of the Institutes' members and how much the Children love to be with the Sisters and the Brothers.
For those who speak Italian do not miss to get Piccolo Missionario for your children through the Comboni Missinaries. The Sisters and Brothers will from time to time also have the editions translated for English speaking families. The prayer card to seek favors from God through the intercession of the Servant of God Bishop Angelo Negri is availble in English, Italian and other local languages in the GANAL Province including in Luganda, Runyoro-Rutoro, Karamojong and Itesot languages.
